We are currently working on a process to have those messages populated into the correct forums in the coming days to ensure that the replies are present as part of the course content. This may result in extra notifications related to this older posts for you. As of July 28th, email replies to forums have been working as expected.

The problem experience earlier with editing course content was resolved at 9:45am. Instructors are able to see all course sections in the edit mode.

Instructors are unable to see course content beyond the "General" section when the course is being edited. There is no problem with viewing content when the editing is turned off. There is no impact to the students with viewing course content.

Our technical team is working diligently to resolve this as quickly as possible.

As of 2:00 PM this afternoon, the problem experienced with Passport York authenticated logins was resolved. Users should be able to login into Moodle and other Passport York authenticated websites.

UIT teams are closely monitoring Passport York to make sure that the service stays up and running.

We’ve discovered an issue in the Moodle Journal activity. If the activity is set up for groups, you will receive an error when you try and and filter the groups.
We are currently validating a fix for this.

In the meantime, instructors and teaching assistants can view journal entries by selecting 'All Participants' and then click on the 'View journal entries' link.

We’ve discovered an issue when trying to collapse a block or if a block is already collapsed in the old look. Using the 'Hide xx block' icon removes it completely from a users view in the old look.

If you don't see your navigation or administration block, if you click the “New Look” toggle in the top bar (on the right hand side, so that it turns green), you’ll be able to access Navigation on the left hand side. If you need to access Course administration as an Instructor in the New Look you can do so by selecting 'More' from the 'Actions' cog menu in the top right hand corner.

We’ve discovered an issue where hiding a full topic makes it inaccessible in the old look. We’ll look into fixing this as soon as we are back on January 2nd, 2019.

In the meantime, as a workaround, if you click the “New Look” toggle in the top bar (on the right hand side, so that it turns green), you’ll see your course in our New Look. You’ll see the hidden topic is displayed in this view. If you use the Actions drop down cog menu in the right hand corner to choose ‘Turn editing on’, you’ll see the Edit menu next to the topic so you can unhide it the same way you hid it. Please note that this issue only occurs when hiding the full topic, so you can still hide individual items within the topic. You can use the New Look toggle to again switch back to the old look and you’ll see your topic.

Moodle was unavailable from 10:10am until 11:20am. The cause was identified as related to the backup process for the new database that was put in Friday. It caused an abnormal impact affecting performance that did not manifest itself in testing. We have now changed that process to prevent any such impact and are continuing to closely monitor the system.

After restarting our database yesterday our response times have returned to normal, and continue to perform optimally even with high surges of users that have typically slowed us down over the past week. We'll be continuing our plan to increase capacity and were able to copy the current data during last nights outage. A reminder that Moodle will be unavailable on Friday morning from 6am until 8am as we make the switch from our current database to our new infrastructure.

Over the course of the next few days we are going to be taking some emergency measures to ease the production issues that you have encountered by moving to a new database infrastructure. This involves a few outages that will impact you:
  1. Today from 3pm until 3:30pm we restarted our database. Since that time we have seen Moodle return to normal response times. We are encouraged by this development.
  2. From 12am until 7am tomorrow morning we'll copy existing Moodle data from our existing infrastructure. You will not have access to Moodle during this time.
  3. Behind the scenes starting early tomorrow morning and continuing throughout the day and into Thursday we’ll be moving this data into our new infrastructure. Moodle will be available as we do this work.
  4. On Friday between 6am and 8am, we’ll be making the switch from our current database infrastructure to our new. You will not have access to Moodle during this time.

Moodle continues to have a slow response during the busy start to the semester (we've reached around 1200 concurrent users today). Our 6th web server was deployed at around 3pm today. We'll be watching Moodle closely over the weekend, in particular we'll be looking for slow downs that may require us to jump in and restart our multiple web servers on occasion to improve your response times when using Moodle. This may mean your session will be disrupted and you'll be required to login again, we're sorry for that. Thanks again for your continued patience as we work to resolve this issue.

We've temporarily removed a few items from the new look dashboard that were expensive transactions including the message and notifications in the top bar as well as the timeline feature. They'll be back.

Some students receiving error on login Some students have reported receiving an error message when logging into Moodle. For these students, courses can still be accessed using the direct URL to the course.  The error message displayed varies depending on the browser that the student is using and is similar in nature to an outstanding issue we’ve had with a very small number of quizzes in Moodle.

Annotated feedback on Assignments We are investigating an issue where documents (with exception of pdf) are not loading properly in the grading screen that allows for annotated feedback - instead an error or blank page is loaded in the window where you'd usually see an assignment.  Submissions can still be downloaded and grades entered on the same screen

Email notification - NEW ISSUE Moodle stopped sending email notifications at 4:00pm yesterday (Sept. 21). We are investigating.

Unable to create Turnitin Assignments - ONGOING We are now testing and validating a solution to this issue.

iClicker integration in Moodle - RESOLVED We have determined that the root cause of this issues is with iClicker. The integration with their services will fail if a course title exceeds 75 characters. We have been in touch with affected users and Faculty support groups about this issue, and to temporarily shorten course titles. iClicker is validating our findings and we hope that they'll have a solution in the near future.

Textbook list discrepancy - RESOLVED Moodle was not displaying updated information for course textbook listings when the Bookstore made updates. This was corrected with our release yesterday morning and after our data synchronization last evening should now be corrected for all courses.

NEW ISSUE DISCOVERED. We have discovered that courses that share a course code with another, but with a different Faculty code (e.g SB/ECON3150, AP/ECON3150) see both sets of books in each course.

Browser issues Safari 9.1.2, iOS 9.x and IE11 on Windows 7 Users who are using Safari 9.1.2 and iOS 9.x and IE11 on Windows 7 are experiencing issues with degraded functionality in our new look. While we work to resolve this issue please update your browser to the latest version (please note this may require an OS upgrade for Mac users) or use a different browser - we find Firefox or Chrome have been working well. We are working on a fix for this series of issues.

Topic 0 hidden - ADDRESSED We have encountered a handful of cases where Topic 0 is hidden, there is no way to make this section visible from your course settings.

All affected courses have been corrected. We continue to work on a permanent fix for this issue and monitor for additional occurrences.

iClicker integration in Moodle We have determined that Moodle courses that have a title longer than 75 characters are what causes an error when connecting through LTI.  We are working quickly with the Vendor to increase the character limit on their end. We've reached out to the Instructors that were affected with a workaround and we'll let you know when the limit has been increased.

Performance issues Starting September 12th, 2017, Moodle has been slow to respond to queries and in some cases has lost connection to the database, requiring users to login again. These issues are intermittent but have been impacting user experience.  Our UIT teams are currently investigating whether there is an issue with the database.Unable to create Turnitin Assignments From August 14th, 2017 some users have been unable to create or submit to Turnitin Assignments within Moodle.  All grades and submissions from assignments created before the 14th remain intact. We are working closely with Turnitin engineers to determine how to move forward with this. iClicker integration in Moodle We have received several reports of instructors who, after entering and saving the external tool information, receive an error message when they click on the new iClicker link (with the green puzzle piece icon) from their Moodle course page. We are actively investigating this issue, but in the meantime, please know that students can still create iClicker Reef student accounts and join your courses manually. To do this, students will start from app.reef-education.com and click “Sign Up.”
